Nursing care process applied to a pediatric patient with severe pneumonia: Clinical case
Abstract
In a healthcare setting, information about a person’s health, the events that occur during an illness, and crucial data for diagnosing, treating, and monitoring the patient’s progress are collected. This work aimed to apply the Nursing Care Process (NCP) to a pediatric patient with severe pneumonia. The collected and interpreted information was essential for designing care plans that addressed his care needs and contributed to his recovery. Pneumonia is an urgent pathology that affects the child population worldwide. To guide the intervention, the methodology of the model of the 14 needs of Virginia Henderson was used to collect the necessary information, assess the patient’s condition, and recognize the needs that needed to be addressed promptly. For this, it was necessary to apply the theoretical basis of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), as well as in the NOC (Nursing Outcomes) and NIC (Nursing Interventions) classifications, the results of the study evidence the approach of three standardized care plans that addressed the main care needs. In conclusion, the application of the NCP was fundamental for the successful management of severe pneumonia in this pediatric patient.
